"AWAKEN TO THE FATHER’S LOVE"

Many of us have grown up in all sorts of different family situations. Father’s Day may cause us to examine or remember our own relationships with our natural fathers. Some have grown up with fathers who loved limitlessly making us feel loved, nurtured, safe, and protected. However, countless numbers of people have grown up with Dad’s that may have been abusive, distant, legalistic, or even those who neglected or abandoned us.

Sometimes, when we try to get into a relationship with our Father in heaven, we reflect some of these characteristics onto Him. The danger in this is it keeps us from seeing God for who He really is. This will limit us from experiencing God’s abundant love, presence, freedom, and peace.

Oh, Daughters of the Most High God, we must begin to see God through His amazing character and nature. Only then will we be able to let down our fears, inhibitions, and guards enough to encounter His overwhelming limitless love!

I urge you today to know and understand the following;

· God is Love! God created us and sent His only Son to the cross in order that we could be with Him and encounter this love.

· God wants to protect us and make us feel safe and secure in His arms!

· God wants us to be free to live for Him without insecurities, inhibitions, and fears.

· The Father wants us to be healed of all pain, rejection, and hurts from things that have happened in our past.

Ladies, it is time to LET DOWN OUR GUARDS! We have a loving Father who is waiting and wanting us to run to Him. He loves us sooooo much….just call out to Him and He will show up in your life pouring out His awesome presence in such a way you will NEVER be able to deny His love!

Jeremiah 31:3 (Message) God told them, "I've never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!

"AWAKEN TO HONOUR"

As we see in the media today, there are many in the world who get honoured because of the family they were born into, the works they have done, or because they have some special gift or talent that causes people to admire and look up to them. However, as believers and followers of Jesus Christ, I want to challenge us to be a people who honour Him above all and also become vessels of honour in His kingdom!

Honour (definition) means Heaviness or Glory

Hebrew (Old Testament): A person who is honored is regarded as being weighty or as amounting to something.

Greek (New Testment): Esteem, value, preciousness.

We, as believers are called first and foremost to honor God. In our western culture, we have lost the true understanding of honour and must reteach and retrain ourselves how to truly honor God.

God is the head of a kingdom, not a democracy! As Westerners, we often understand things from the point of view of a democratic society. Therefore, when we become Christians, we often bring this way of thinking into our religious beliefs. However, God doesn’t run a democracy, but a kingdom. Eastern cultures tend to understand this better and understand the true definition of honoring God.

To truly learn to honor God, we must change our thinking and understand that Jesus is the head of all things and He is the king in our kingdom. What He says goes. What the Word of God says goes! It is not subject to democratic debate and cannot be twisted to adjust our lives. We must be the ones to adjust our lives, thoughts, & behaviors in order to be successful and become honorable vessels in His kingdom.

Eph 1:19-23 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honour at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

How do we Honour God?

By Giving Him Our lives!

Luke 9:23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

Ways we can adjust our lives to become Honorable Vessels:

· Spend our lives helping others to get set free to serve the Lord

· Realize God created us to show His power through us.

· Don’t live for ourselves or promote ourselves, but serve in the body of Christ to see the power of the Lord work in us, through us, and out to others.

· Have soft hearts towards the Lord and others

· Be hungry for the presence of God

· Be humble

· Stay teachable- take correction from those who have laid down their lives for the Lord and learn from them.

· Listen to, obey, and serve God wholeheartedly

· Change our hearts, minds, attitudes, plans, time, talents, finances, and use them for the kingdom of God

· Allow God to rule our lives; not people, money, or other wants/desires

Romans 9:21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

God desires for us to be vessels of honor in His kingdom. Therefore, all dishonour must go! We have a choice in the kingdom of God to become a vessel who will honour God or dishonour Him.

Vessel- Container, bowl, cup, something that can hold something.

The purpose of a vessel is to hold something so others can use it. It is useful, practical, and much needed in the kingdom of God. God is looking for vessels of honour He can entrust to carry His presence so we can pour it out to a lost and dying world. In the natural, honorable vessels hold the best food and drink, while dishonorable vessels hold awful things like slop or toilet water. What kind of vessel would you rather be?

God will not entrust His presence to dishonorable vessels! As we allow Him to do a work in our lives and yield to the Holy Spirit, we are making room for His presence.

Rev.4:11 “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they existand were created.”

AWAKEN TO 'SPIRITUAL HUNGER'

Luke 19:1-10 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Why is the story of Zacchaeus significant?

Zaccheus was a tax collector. In those days, tax collectors were hated by society, often seen as thieves who no one wanted to be around. In other words, the guy had a bad reputation! Zaccheus also had limitations. He was short, unable to see through the crowd. Because he was unliked and small, he was probably pushed aside by many.

Why did Jesus notice and want to be with Zacchaeus?

Hunger & Willingness: Jesus saw a great desire within Zacchaeus to be in the presence of the Lord. He didn’t let people’s opinion stop him. He also didn’t allow his own limitations stop him. Zacchaeus also recognized he had done some things wrong and immediately addressed them before the Lord. He was willing to change his ways!

Although there was a large crowd to see Jesus, he bypassed many to find one who was willing to do anything just to get a glimpse of Him. In other words, there were many people who came to see Jesus as a spectator or just out of curiosity from things they had heard. But, Jesus overlooked them. Perhaps, he sensed they were there for the wrong reasons!

Now, let’s look at this in a way that is relevant to us today! Many go to church, watch spiritual TV programs, or have some type of religious beliefs, traditions, or acts of service. However, how many of us are actually interested in meeting with Jesus Christ? Remember, Jesus bypassed most of the crowd to get to the one who would do anything to be near Him. Meeting with Jesus must be our first priority as a believer in Him. If we go to church out of duty, curiosity, or as a spectator, chances are we won’t get the Lord’s approval much less his manifest presence in our lives.

Examine your hearts and start to become hungry for the presence and the things of God. What are your limitations? Is it your past, reputation, fear of man, passivity, shyness, laziness, or timidity? Do you care too much about what others think? Are you willing to put aside your limitations to seek Him and grow in all He has for you? Stop caring about what others think! If you have a chance to get in his presence….do it! Be the one who cries out to Him with all your heart. Run to the altar at every opportunity. Don’t just sing songs about the Lord…rather, worship him with all your heart, soul, and strength. Be like Zaccheus, be willing to climb to get a glimpse of Him and forget about others opinions of you. The only opinion that should matter to us is that of Jesus Christ!

Matthew 5:6 (NIV) Blessed are those who ‘hunger and thirst’ for righteousness, for they will be filled.

'Hunger and thirst’ are strong words! If you translate them from the original Greek definitions, they mean: an ardent, eager, famishing, all consuming craving, desire and passion of the soul for God and his righteousness.

Rise up ladies! Become eager and passionate about the presence of God! Start to crave, desire, and have a consuming urgency to get the Lord’s attention! Even right now, you can start to call out to Him and say ‘Jesus, I need you in my life! Help me be who you have called me to be. I don’t care about what others think…I only want you! Forgive me of my past and help me change my ways. I want to get your attention….not just go through religious motions. Give me a greater hunger for your presence and righteousness! Notice me Lord….I am not going to let limits stop me anymore!’

AWAKEN TO RELENTLESS PRAYER

Prayer is a powerful gift and privilege given to 'all'! Yet, it seems it is rarely used or sadly, never used. Statistics from 'Outreach Canada' concluded that 62% of Canadians call themselves Christians but only 45% pray daily. Other studies have revealed that over 80% of those who pray only do so for 2 to 5 minutes a day or less. This number includes pastors and those in forms of religious leadership.

Perhaps we aren’t convinced of the powerful results prayer brings. 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 (NIV) If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.

The Bible says God is waiting for His people to get on our faces and pray with persistence, passion, and a pure heart! Then, He will come bringing forgiveness and healing.

Breakdown of Statistics: Outreach Canada has also done a breakdown of statistics for evangelical type churches across Canada. Out of 9,150 evangelical type churches:

900 are in excellent shape, fulfilling the Matthew 28:19 “disciplemaking” mandate. 1,300 congregations have serious health concerns and are in a state of decline. 450 (5%) churches are battling the forces of disintegration. 6,000 (65%) fellowships are plateaued with an inward focus that is characterized by a maintenance and a loss of mission.

In other words, the church today is in serious need of healing and restoration. If the churches aren’t operating out of health and wholeness, there is little hope to reach out to the rest of our nation bringing the good news of Jesus Christ.

We must be convinced and willing to stop only ‘talking’ about the need for prayer but be a people who will pray for our families, churches, and country relentlessly!

Relentless means: unyieldingly, unrelenting: persistence, never ceasing, unstoppable determination. Also, adamant, unyielding!

Ladies, if you believe in the power of prayer- I urge you to not just believe or put it aside. Relentless prayer needs to be a ‘normal’ part of our lives as believers if we want God to bring health, wholeness, and restoration to our land!

James 5:16 (Amplified) The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man (or women) makes tremendous power available- dynamic in its working.

Awaken to His Word

I was recently thinking about how important it is to maintain our lifestyle of faith and personal holiness. It occurred to me the more I spend time reading the Bible and personally applying and practicing it, the less I struggle in different areas of my life. In fact, I become infused with life! My desire to pray, be with the body of Christ, and fulfill my destiny in God increases.

Shortly after, I heard some ladies talk about how difficult it seems these days to take time and really spend time in God’s word. It seems people are too busy these days. Time slips away and one of the first things to get put aside is our time in personal devotion and prayer. The Bible seems irrelevant to our world and makes it difficult to place as a priority.

Many recognize the importance of church attendance but all too often rely ONLY on what is being taught to them from the pulpit. This is important and the Lord wants us to ensure what we are being taught is true.

Acts 17:11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.

However, God created us to be spiritual beings needing spiritual food (the Word) more than once or twice a week. What about the rest of the week? Have our appetites been adapted to enjoy more carnal or spiritual delights?

I have read many biographies of strong Christian men and women who stepped out to make a difference in the world. There seemed to be a common thread throughout all their different stories. They consistently spent time in the Word and prayer! Although they had influential pastors and teachers in their lives, they never let it replace their own desire to get in His Word! They disciplined themselves and adjusted their appetites for the things of God.

I encourage you to become a woman of the Word! Re-adjust your appetite until you enjoy and crave the things of God. It may be tough at first, but to become a spiritually healthier and stronger woman of God, it is absolutely necessary. The Bible is real and totally relevant. In fact, with all the darkness in the world today, we need His Word to help us more than ever. Struggles with sin will decrease and may even disappear. Those areas you thought you may always be your weaknesses will transform into great strengths. You will be encouraged, strengthened, and infused with His life!

Wow ~ what an incentive! It will also make your journey of faith a lot more fun!

1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment!

"Awakened To Gather"

Have you ever heard the saying, “There is safety in numbers”? There are many elements of truth to this saying. Many women in the body of Christ are going through some difficult times. They have been hurt, betrayed, feel lonely, fearful, depressed, and some may even have suicidal thoughts. The last thing on earth they want to do is be with people. They avoid social functions, church attendance drops, and they make excuses when friends call extending invitations.

The Bible warns of how unwise and dangerous it is to isolate ourselves. Isolation will cut us off from those who will encourage, support, pray for, help, and love you. Isolation will also stop you from being who God called you to be in the body. God needs every finger, toe, heart, mouth, and knee to function together. One is not more important than the other!

Proverbs 18:1 Whoeverisolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.

God does not want us to stay in an isolated state. His intent and desire is to free us of hurts, fears, and everything else that hinders us so we can take our place in the body of Christ and become the women God created us to be!

Dear Sister, I encourage you to gather with those who have found freedom in Jesus Christ! Seek out God honoring churches, prayer meetings, Bible studies, and fellowships. As you gather with others and take your place in the body, you will be well on your way to your destiny in Him!

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

The 2011 theme for Women's Journey of Faith is “Awaken”!

Awaken means to: Wake up, stir up, make active, cause to become awake or conscious; stir up!

Wow, there is so much activity behind a simple word.

The Bible talks of many men and women who were ‘awakened’ by Jesus Christ. They hadn't just heard about Jesus, but had encountered Him. As a result, they were healed, transformed, and restored! The same God of the Bible wants to have miraculous encounters with us today!
God is trying to wake women up to His activity. Jesus wants to be active in your life!

Ephesians 5:14 Therefore he says, "Awake, you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

If you want this ‘awakening’ in your life; you can have it. Just start to cry out to Jesus and ask to encounter His presence!

The vision of Women's Journey of Faith is the restoration of women through gathering, nurturing, discovering, and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Our desire is to see you restored to the “awakening” presence of God!

A "New Thing"

"See I am doing a new thing, now it springs up! Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:19

The Women's Journey of Faith conference "Unshakable Faith" has come and gone with incredible memories to reflect on! (Check out the photos on our website!) Our theme verse for the conference came from the book of Isaiah chapter 43 verse 19 which talks about God doing a 'new thing'. Regardless if you joined us on November 5th or 6th 2010 or not- this passage in the Bible is a truth available to all! He wants to do a new thing in all our lives, but we often are so blind to it that we are not 'perceiving' it.

Having Unshakable Faith means knowing who God is and who we are. Putting our trust in the One who can forgive our past and holds the keys to tomorrow- we can be counted among those in the hall of faith whose names were mentioned in the book of Hebrews chapter 11 . In the first verse, it describes what faith is: "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." If we are going through a 'desert time' and can't perceive anything good can come out of it.... left unto ourselves, we become spiritually stuck. To get out of that rut, we simply need to fix our eyes on Jesus and allow Him to do that new thing! We do so by laying our everything to God in prayer. Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14) He quenches our thirst in dry times.

If you are going through a desert time:

Do you know God? Do you have a relationship with Him by knowing and receiving His son Jesus Christ into your life? Then we encourage you to keep trusting Him through your desert times. The Bible confirms that life is full of many troubles, but to know that God is in control. Your faith will be tested and your character refined through those shaky or dry times....answers are just around the corner. Beauty comes though brokenness and His Holy Spirit wants to live through you and be that living water to your soul for your personal healing and restoration and to bring restoration to others on the journey.
If you don't know God, we invite you to seek Him with your whole heart If you're going through a desert time- know that there are streams of living water coming to the rescue as you trust in Jesus to be your Savior and your Lord of your life. If you have never prayed to receive Jesus- here's an excellent resource to help you begin your peace with God.

No matter where you are at on your journey of faith, we encourage you to keep praying and trusting for all the things your heart hopes for. WJOF is excited to hear of the new things that have been birthed in your life or the new thing that you are witnessing in others. Be in touch, we'd love to hear from you!

(2 days prior to our 11th annual conference "Unshakable Faith" At TCU Place Nov 5th-6th) This event features world renowned speaker, author and communications expert/ speaker trainer: Carol Kent. As you go about your summer holiday- we encourage you to pray for all the pastor's, teachers, and communicators of God's word!

Christian speakers should be the MOST articulate, passionate and clear communicators because we have the the good news to share with the world! Speaking, teaching, helping, leading, praying, serving, giving etc....No matter what your call is on the journey, do it with all the strength and energy that God gives you as the passage in 1 Peter 4 implies.

2010 Conference Announcement:

Our team is winding down from the 2009-2010 ministry year and gearing up to announce our new theme for the coming year: Unshakable Faith! To kick this off, we will promote the fall conference (with assistance with our church reps) on the website, at local bookstores and through our newsletters. Tickets information and details for this event will be posted by June 15th.

We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker for Unshakable Faith will be Carol Kent. We welcome her back to our conference as she was the first to grace the stage with WJOF at our first event September 23rd 2000 at "Secret Longings of the Heart".

Dates of the Fall conference is Nov 5-6th 2010 (plus an additional speaker's training conference with Carol Kent and Jodi Kozan on Nov 4-5th) The Women's Journey of Faith ministry team is discerning a new direction for WJOF this year. A scriptural verse chosen to reflect this 'new thing' as we seek to have Unshakable Faith in all we say and do. Join us in prayer as we discern God's best for this ministry!

Our team is excited that our Sharing the Journey seminar is finally here!

Most people know about WJOF from our fall conference here in Saskatoon.

Sharing the Journey is a one day seminar for women of all ages to grow deeper in the theme that was kickstarted in the fall. For those who attended "Flawless", they may recall our theme verse:

'As for God His was are perfect, the word of the Lord is flawless" Psalm 18:30

Our Sharing the Journey theme this year is "Growing in Truth". In talking with our keynote speaker Lorna Dueck this past week, it is evident that she has a strong message to share on this topic. Our break out sessions are excellent opportunities to be mentored in various areas where women can thrive in God's truth: being restored as God intends. LOVE IT! Sharing the Journey keynote speaker: Lorna Dueck- Haiti interview...

Dear Journey friends-

(This picture was taken at the Calgary conference last fall with one of our speakers for WJOF Lorna Dueck from Listen Up TV as well as Lorna's viewer relations assistant Lesley on my right.)

It's exciting to follow Lorna's work throughout the year as we prepare to host her once again at our upcoming seminar Sharing the Journey "Growing in Truth" on Sat. April 17th here in Saskatoon. One of Lorna's ventures in 2010 included a trip to Haiti last month. The aftermath from January 12th continues to have a ripple effect in the country and across the globe. It's amazing how small our world becomes when we are connected through the internet and media.It seems surreal to me as our family flew over the island on January 10th enroute back home to Canada from a restful vacation. It's tough to wrestle with the questions that loom with purpose, hope and faith. When one nation hurts, we all face and feel their hurt. Thankful for Media outlets who give such careful coverage of current events, giving a much needed Christian perspective.

Call upon Him 'in truth'....

Dear friend on the journey-

Persevering to be faithful to the one who gives me breath......

Not an easy task with all the distractions and temptations around- wouldn't you agree? There is my solo time, my family time with husband and kids, the house that needs attention, pets, going to the gym, bills to pay, work, volunteer time, activities.... YIKES!

Then I meditate on scripture like the one found in Psalm 145:

Psalm 145:17-19
The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and loving toward all he has made.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.

When we persevere through all the roles and" to do lists", resting in God's love and nurturing ways- knowing He is near me as I call on Him, my heart is at peace. I am not superwoman, nor do I ever want to hail that claim to fame! Through this juggling season of multitasking, He fulfills me and gives me the strength I need to do all I am created to be. I like the words: 'call on him in truth'. He is the truth, we are asked to be authentic and come as we are-truthfully. Why? Because faking it just doesn't cut it with the Lord. When we are able to just 'BE', and allow Christ to rule in our hearts- wow.

Here's a picture of our 2009-2010 ministry team based out of Saskatoon, SK which is a small representation of a much larger network of faith filled believers serving with the WJOF ministry. This picture though includes our board of directors, leadership team and the SK conference team members. We also have a conference team in Calgary for our event there on November 14th at the Telus Centre we will join shortly!

There are over 200 men and women involved with WJOF this year as we share the journey with others we encounter at events and online connections. Through our 10th anniversary choir joining us from ELIM Tabernacle, worship team, faith stories team, dance team, prayer partners, our advisory team, church reps and general event volunteers, we wouldn't be able to do what we do without this amazing support. It's a team effort spanning numerous denominational backgrounds as we come together for a common purpose to live by faith, walk in love and affirm the call.

We are a non- profit charitable organization ran primarily through volunteer support and we are thankful for 10 years of ministry thus far. Join us on the journey are we discern the next 10 years and seek out ways to walk in the direction of our vision statement:

Flawless-a diamond in the rough......

Diamonds- (and natural gemstones) are nature's wonders adorning jewelry worn throughout the ages and copied in affordable "knock off" costume jewelry women across the globe enjoy. Nothing though beats the look and feel of the real thing.

The picture at the left is an uncut diamond. (Not our first choice to sit in an engagement or anniversary ring!) But -all brilliant and (next to) perfect diamonds start out this way. They are then cut into a faceted gem. The shine, the color, the creative diverse design awakens our desire for beauty somehow...

With our 10th anniversary conference theme being "Flawless" this fall, it is amusing to reflect on how similiar our spiritual journey is likened to that of the "diamond in the rough"

"Diamond cutting is the art, skill and, increasingly, science of changing a diamond from a rough stone into a faceted gem. Cutting diamonds requires specialized knowledge, tools, equipment, and techniques because of its extreme hardness."- Wikpedia

The Word of God refers to the human heart bent on sinning and rebellion as having a hardened heart. Many suffer from "Extreme hardness" and the only way to restore and refine our raw and uncut selves, is to be transformed into our original intent. Here at Women's Journey of Faith- we believe that it is through knowing God by trusting in Jesus as Savior and Lord of our lives- we too begin that refining and shaping process.

This weekend marks our 10th anniversary as a ministry to women. Our 2 "Flawless" conference in Saskatoon SK on Saturday, November 7th and in Calgary Saturday, November 14th will focus on this message that we are all flawed women, LOVED by a flawless God. It is in His perfection, His refinement, His direction, His wisdom that we can shine brilliantly as He had planned for us long before the creation of the World. AMAZING.

We are all on a journey- and as the scripture in Hewbrews says below, it is Jesus who initiates and refines our faith by keeping our eyes on Him.

" Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up." Hebrews 12:1-3

Lorna Dueck joins WJOF at "Flawless" in Calgary and Saskatoon

Founder and Executive Director Lorna Dueck of Listen Up TV is added to the speaker line up at the upcoming "Flawless" conference with Women's Journey of Faith.

Lorna Dueck is the creator, host and executive producer of Listen Up TV, and president of Media Voice Generation, the Canadian charitable organization that produces the weekly broadcast.
Lorna is also a regular commentary writer on faith and public life in Canada’s leading national newspaper, The Globe and Mail. Lorna is a wife and mother to two adult children. When her son and daughter were young, she worked for ten years as a self-employed journalist in a home-based office, servicing media across Canada and the U.S. From 1994 to 2002, she co-hosted Canada’s most-watched daily Christian television program, 100 Huntley Street. It was during that time, that she launched Listen Up as a weekly feature within the 100 Huntley Street program. She established Media Voice Generation—taking Listen Up independent from its parent program—in 2004. It airs on a variety of mainstream and Christian television stations and networks across North America, and is available worldwide on the Internet.

This decision to add Lorna to our speaker line up is certainly "God led". Our ministry team has been in prayer of adding additional Canadian content and were seeking a women who embodies our core values of living by faith, walking in love and affirming the call. After a visit to Listen Up TV's station in Burlington Ontario, it was apparent to me and WJOF faith stories team leader Deidre Havrelock that Lorna was someone to prayerfully consider inviting to be a spokesperson for the ministry for the 2009-2010 season.

She will appear at both conferences in Saskatoon (November 7th 2009) and Calgary (November 14th 2009) and be our keynote speaker at our "Sharing the Journey" event held at TCU place on April 17th 2010.

100 Huntely Street Interview- Fear of God or Fear of man?

Journey friends-

They say that public speaking is perhaps the #1 fear people struggle with regardless if they are extroverts or introverts. I have been reflecting on this notion for years, especially when it comes to sharing one's faith. Whether it's one on one or in front of millions, we all tend to have a 'fear of people' rather than a healthy 'fear' of God. Hard to do when many of us struggle with being a people pleaser! For the unbeliever, the fear of God is fear of judgement and lives in fear because they don't know Jesus. For the believer in Christ, a healthy fear of God means a reverence for Him and a desire to follow Him daily.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 3:14-16 " But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience..." Since 1996, I have been compelled to share who Jesus is in my life and I have learned so much through my trials and errors. More importantly, to learn that my witness is through both my words and my actions. When it comes to speaking or sharing our faith, I am convinced that we are to take the above scripture seriously that we are always to be prepared to give an answer to give a reason for the hope we have. Recently, I travelled to 100 Huntley Street studios in Burlington Ontario for a scheduled interview which is being played this monday, Sept 28th.

http://crossroadstv.ca/television/huntley/upcoming-guests I was fully intending on sharing about Women's Journey of Faith and the "restoration of women" on the show, but the host wanted to focus primarily on my story of how I came to know Jesus. Yikes, with 2 minutes before the camera's were rolling- I had to shift gears and go in another direction. Realizing that things happen for a reason, I still go through fears of this world and apprehension of saying the wrong things and making mistakes! Well, another lesson in humility. God asks us to be ready and He doesn't ask us to be perfect, just willing to share of our lives and faith in Christ at any given moment. Why? Our stories make incredible inroads to those who don't know Christ Jesus yet. Seeds of faith planted in a human heart that may one day take root to a full blown faith and relationship with God.

"They overcame him by the blood of the lamb (Jesus) and the word of their testimony..." Revelation 12:11

Please pray that my story and the seeds of faith I planted on air tomorrow will take root in those viewers who could relate to my story. They say that it plays throughout Canada, in 14 million US homes and literally across the globe as they stream it on their website for weeks following. Fear God, not people, fear God, not people, fear God, not people- continues to be my motto when I step out and share my faith.

Where were you on June 25? After weeks of neglecting

my workout regime, that day found me back in the gym

when I learned of the deaths of two celebrity icons:

Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. With the news came

a wave of childhood memories of dancing to Michael's

tunes and watching empowered, beautiful women fight for justice in the first run

of Charlie's Angels. (Yes I was a major fan, as I named my firstborn daughter

after one

It’s interesting to watch the reactions of others, with worldwide events such as

these. Somehow celebrities are put on a pedestal at their peak, and when they

fall from stardom the rumors fly. Celebrities rise high and fall hard because of our

nature to want to worship someone or something. The pressure to be perfect or

flawless for one’s fans is all consuming for most celebrities, and impossible as it

is unattainable.

No matter how perfect someone's life may look to us, we never know what's

going on in their heart. The last leg of Michael's journey was a sad one, while

Farrah seemed to have come to a place in her life where she understood beauty

and purpose come from a deeper place. I pray that both of them made their

peace with God, but only He knows. No matter how far one has strayed or how

deep the sin stain is on one's life, there is hope for the hopeless. I'm very thankful

that I am not the judge and that Jesus, who died for sin, judges perfectly.

Reflecting on the life and death of another human being, including those whose

names have made the walk of fame, we realize this world is not as it should be.

Deep down we are all looking for something more: perfection.

Whoa. My perfectionist tendencies are revealed to me when I read this verse. I

know that if I try to be perfect or flawless by my own merit, I am bound to fail.

The dictionary defines flawless as: "without a flaw; a flawless gemstone, being

complete of its kind and without defect or blemish." When a diamond is being

judged on a quality level, the one doing the judging follows the 4 C's: cut, color,

clarity and carat. Thankfully God does not judge on the outside, but sees what is

going on within us - He looks to our hearts.

Don't you long to be flawless? With all my wayward ways and rough edges, I

have a long road to travel on my journey of faith. I want to be all I can be, but

need all the grace in God's kingdom to hold me up. Jesus loves us just as we

are, but loves us too much to leave us as we are. It’s all about restoration.

In studying the Bible, I am reminded that our English language is quite limited.

We can be so thankful for those who study the original Greek and Hebrew Bible

texts, as they increase our understanding of the scriptures so much more. In

Matthew 5:48, the Greek word for perfect is teleio, which means complete. Jesus

Christ was the only person who was able to live a complete life because he was

without sin. As we look to Jesus, our perfect and complete example, we are able

to see what being complete looks like. In light of this, we can pursue perfection

by the grace of God and the empowering of the Holy Spirit, who enables us to

demonstrate His fruit, as mentioned in Galatians 5: “Love, joy, peace, patience,

kindness, gentleness, self control, and goodness.”

Here is that same verse from the Amplified Bible, which expands in parenthesis

the meaning of some words that need clarification.

"You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in

mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as

your heavenly Father is perfect."

Matthew 5:48 (Amplified Bible)

As a jeweler constantly views gems for flaws and rates them accordingly, the

world judges with its own standards of perfection. God's Word judges us. Christ

Jesus is the only perfect judge and as we live in faith and abide in Christ we are

accepted, secure, significant and loved. Do you struggle with perfectionism?

Grace covers us all as we seek to have complete dependence on the One who is

flawless.

Perfectionism rooted and uprooted- Flawless reflections...

Do you struggle with "perfectionism"?

"But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. " Matthew 6:48

Whoa, when I read that verse, the ugly roots of perfectionism tendencies arise- yet I know deeply in my humanity...I am bound to fail. The dictionary definition of flawless is: "without a flaw; a flawless gemstone, being complete of its kind and without defect or blemish." ....When a diamond is being judged on a quality level, the one doing the judging usually follows the 4 C's table. The 4 C's are cut, color, clarity and carat. Thankfully,God does not judge on the outside, but what is going on within us- He looks to our hearts.

Don't you long to be "flawless"? With all my wayward ways and rough edges, in comparison to Jesus, I have a long road to travel on my journey of faith. This note is for all those sisters who struggle with perfectionism on some level. Relax, rest, renew.... As summer teaches us, everything is made beautiful in it's time...! Be "rooted" in Him.

"Flawless" thoughts...World's perspective vs. God's

I was back to my workout regime (after weeks of neglecting that area of my life) at my local gym yesterday, when I learned of the death's of 2 celebrity icons: Micheal Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. Running into Christian and non christians alike in the gym, it's interesting watching the reaction of others with worldwide events such as this. The news brought back memories of my childhood days of dancing to his tunes and watching empowered/beautiful women fight for justice in the first run of Charlie's Angels. Somehow celebrities are put on a pedestal at their peak and idolized and when they fall from stardom the rumors fly. Very thankful that I am not the judge and Jesus died for all. Celebrities rise high and fall hard because of our nature to want to worship someone or something. When all is said and done, it is the Word of God that is timeless and perfection comes only through His son Jesus Christ. As sad as the last leg of Micheal's journey was, I pray he made His peace with God. No matter how far one has strayed, or how deep the stain sin is on one's life-there is hope for the hopeless. Farrah on the other hand seemed to have come to a place in her life where she understood beauty and purpose comes from a deeper place- yet only God knows if she made her peace with Him.

Security
Signficance
Acceptance
Love

The world will try and offer ways to fulfill these longings, but only through a personal relationship with God through His son Jesus is that possible. In Him we are secure, In Him we are significant, In Him we are accepted and In Him we are loved.

Expanding our ministry into other cities has been a dream for years. Although it's been on my heart for 10 years, the timing seems right to make that move. The board had approved of this decision earlier this year and we are just in the midst of our kick off promotional swing in getting the word out in both SK and AB. The theme for this year is "Flawless" based on Psalm 18:30 which reads "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless". Saskatoon is celebrating it's 10th anniversary since our first conference on Sept 23rd with Carol Kent. Our keynote speaker on November 6-7th 2009 is Liz Curtis Higgs. Our keynote speaker for Calgary's event held on Saturday, November 14th at the Telus Centre is Angela Thomas.

Springtime greetings to our "Journey" bloggers!

I haven't written in quite some time on the WJOF blog..My writings typically gravitate to the "facebook world", so I will share a piece of what wrote in our WJOF Facebook group this week:

I wrote a few months back posing the question of what the phrase "restoration of women" meant to you. Many have posted to the board and others have shared with us one on one. Thank you for that! The words "Restore- Restoration- Restoring" continue to churn within me personally and also as a ministry team. Although we have a clear vision statement posted on our website ("Gathering, Nurturing, Discovering,

Sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ") We are praying for what we at Women's Journey of Faith are called to do- emmulate and pray for in this organization at this time. When Keynote speaker-Lisa Bevere joined us at the "Empowered" conference in 2006, the verse Luke 19:10 made an impact as she shared from the Amplified version of the Bible. (as well as Genesis 1:27 which I will write about another time) She explained that Jesus came to restore ALL that was lost in the fall of mankind when sin entered the world. In the church, we tend to think only of the unbelievers when we hear the word "lost"- but I would like to share with you 3 versions of Luke 19:10 to perhaps expand our theology of what "lost" means from His perspective:

“ For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” (Luke 19:10 New Living translation) Women are lost without a relationship with Jesus, they need the Savior and Jesus IS the only way and truth and life and no one comes to the Father except through Him....

“For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost." (Luke 19:10 Message Version.) Women are lost without truth to guide their path. They need Jesus as their Savior and Lord to guide their journey. Christians continue to face distractions, lies and temptations to lure us off the path of holiness.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10 Amplified version) Women are lost in the shuffle if not positioned in God’s kingdom. They need God’s alignment on '

earth as it is in heaven'.

It is obvious our Heavenly Father is in the business of restoring -AMEN?

Would you pray along with us that we would press into His heart for our original intent for women and what He is seeking to restore?

After leading Women's Journey of Faith for 10 years, much has changed and I have changed through this process. Amen for that! Yet there is a hunger for something more that we have not yet realized. I continue to press on with our team because we sense we are a part of larger picture as we play our "note on the piano". With the spring season comes the sense of anticipation. When it comes to the "restoration of women", well for that matter- the "FULL restoration of all mankind", my heart skips a beat and I dream of what that day will be like. (smile).-Jodi

Matthew 25:40 Sharing the Journey -Growing in Love

"I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." - Matthew 25:40

Sharing the Journey was a blessed day on Saturday with over 400 women and teens in attendance. Amidst the fun, faith and fellowship with various speakers, singers and ministries were awesome organizations like World Vision and the Bridge ministry right here in our city. Our theme was "Growing in Love", and after that day, I was reminded that as we grow in love, we will naturally pass on the love of Jesus to others....Being ready to share, serve and give onto others as you have been given.....

I am a member of SEMF (Saskatoon Evangelical Ministerial Fellowship) where pastors and leaders of our city gather for a luncheon each month for prayer, fellowship and hearing from a speaker. This month's focus was different . Rather than a noon hour luncheon, we went on a 3 hour bus tour of the inner city of Saskatoon, ending with lunch at the The Bridge on 20th. Although I am familiar with many ministries that reach out to the poor in my city and also with those in need globally with my local church and agencies like World Vision, this morning hit me hard. When Jesus said "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me", it brings a believer to a whole new level of love. Our group traveled to many of the spots that are key points of service to the poor and those in dire need and met with the leaders there. We also stopped on the side and prayed for various aspects of the people in the heart of our city. During one of those stops, we prayed for the women who are trapped in poverty, abuse, addictions or prostitution. Hard to believe what transpires in our own back yard- but it's there. My heart broke deeper for the women as I interceded with the rest.

You may not be called to work in the inner city or on the streets of third world countries but we can do our part in reaching out to "the least of these".
-Is it through prayer?
-Is it through service?
-Is it through donation of your time, talents, money, food or clothing?

Whatever we can do for the "least of these" and done in the name of Jesus- I believe we will grow and reap what we sow into these precious lives trapped in despair and without hope. It seems like a counter cultural concept when we are facing a global recession to reach out to the poor, but I believe God is wanting to get our attention by saying "do you serve me or money?" As we know by HIs word in Luke 13:16 that says:
"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Here's a prayer for us to check our hearts in this area of reaching out to the least of these:
Dear God,
We praise you for the abundant blessings that you give us. Food, clothing, shelter, loved ones, a purpose, gifts, talents, time... the list goes on and on. Most importantly we thank you for YOU- Your Son Jesus, and your Word that convicts us to take steps to obey you and your call to reach out to others in this hurting world. Father, direct us to those who you consider "The least of these" in our community and help us discern what we can do to make a difference for those precious people trapped in their pain. Empower us with your love to be a light in the darkness. In Jesus name we pray- AMEN!

Sharing the Journey (March 14th) Keynote Speaker: Connie Cavanaugh

We asked three questions to our keynote speaker Connie Cavanaugh (as well as our break out session speakers) for us to get to know her better before our "Sharing the Journey" seminar: "Growing in Love" at TCU Place Saskatoon on Saturday March 14th.

Q. When you hear the phrase "Love Without Limits", what comes to mind?
What comes to mind is, "I wish I could do it!" But if I'm honest I'll admit that love without limits is way beyond me. My love is limited by all sorts of things: fear of rejection, insecurity, risking betrayal, being vulnerable . . . I'm limited by my humanity. Love without limits is divine. It's Jesus; His perfect life in exchange for my pitiful one.

Q. How will women Grow in Love in your sessions?

The more I get to know God, the more I love Him. My love grows each time He reveals Himself to me anew. I believe God, through the Holy Spirit, will reveal Himself to women as we spend time together in His Word and this encounter will cause their love to grow.

Q. What do you like to do for fun? The most fun thing is playing outside with my grandkids. Next on the list are: Hot baths, good books, long ski runs, sunny beaches, mountain hikes, funny movies, food someone else cooks, and hockey games where my team wins (but just barely), these are my favorite things.

Q. What does the theme "Love Without Limits" mean to you? I will never be able to fully understand the limitless, unconditional love that God has for me, but as I grow deeper in my love relationship with Him I can begin to love others the way God would want me to. How exciting! His love for me is so deep, so high and so wide that I will never be able to fully comprehend it. What a gift that love is!

Q. How will women grow in "Love" during your session at Sharing the Journey?
One of the most important things that we as moms want our kids to know is how much we love them - we want our children to feel loved. We love them so deeply, but this doesn't necessarily mean that our kids 'feel' loved. In this session, we will be discussing the five different love languages and be challenged to love our kids in such a way that our words and actions shout love to them.

Q. Outside of your passion to speak, what do you like to do for fun?
Fun has always been a big word for me. I really do like to have fun. I love hanging out with my husband and three kids, especially at the lake on a hot, summer day. I love having friends over or going out with friends to chat and laugh together. I love doing activities outside like waterskiing, down-hill skiing, running, walking, biking, hiking, skating. I love going on holidays, especially somewhere hot and sunny and with a beach. I really enjoy working in my backyard planting and tending to my flowers and other yard work. I can hardly wait for summer!

Q. When you hear the phrase "Love Without Limits" what comes to mind?

God loves us with a perfect love. Our own ability to love is limited by our wounding, our unforgiveness, our dysfunction and our apathy. He loved us enough to sacrifice what was most precious to Him, that is, His own son, so that we might know fellowship with him, now, and for all eternity. As we abide with Him and move towards healing, He works within us changing us more and more into His image, giving us a heart to love as He would love.

Q.How will women "Grow in love" in your session at STJ on March 14th?
We desire for women to receive revelation as to where their hearts have been wounded, and where there has been a log jam in their hearts preventing them from giving and receiving love. Through teaching and prayer in this session, we desire to invite the Holy Spirit to bring healing to each heart.

Q. What do you like to do for fun?
We enjoy reading, travelling, golfing and walking our dog, who teaches us about love without limits! We especially enjoy seeing God bring healing to people’s hearts.

Q.What do you think of when you hear the words "Love without Limits." – When I think of this phrase, I think of God’s unlimited love for us. His love for us is so passionate and unending we could never get close to having a full understanding of it. God showed us His love by sending His Son to the cross and enabling us to have the presence of God available to us now. We have heard much about His past love. However, I am overwhelmed to think of the love, mercy, grace, comfort, and help He wants to give us today. God’s love truly has no limits except the limits we place on Him when we, the children of God, don’t position ourselves to receive and treasure this remarkable gift.

Q. How will women grow "in love" in your session at Sharing the Journey: The session, “Revival Passion” is going to focus on two things: Seeing God for who He really is and seeing ourselves for who really are. This is what “genuine” revival is. Believers have heard for generations about God’s love for us and we do need to have a greater understanding of this. But, what is our heart condition towards God? In other words, what spiritual state are we really in? True love towards God is a life of devotion to Him, His people, and building His kingdom. God’s love towards us isn’t half-hearted or lukewarm. Yet, we often offer up to God a Christian life with partial commitment and limited devotion. In this session, you will be challenged to love God with your whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. What’s standing in your way of “genuine revival” in your life?

Q. Other than your passion to speak, what do you like do do for fun? Other than speaking or teaching, my favorite thing to do is to come together with passionate believers and worship. Ok, I am not trying to be super spiritual. Honestly, there is nothing like worshipping in a corporate setting where everyone is wanting God’s presence, no one looking around or at their watches, but just bringing honor to Him. Wow! This is explosive! I am so blessed when I am with people that honor God and welcome His presence. Imagine how He must feel!
My second favorite thing isn’t quite as spiritual but oh, so wonderful. I love to travel to hot, sunny places and just enjoy tropical settings. There is nothing better than lying on the beach “Chillaxing!” Ok, what is that? Chilling out and relaxing. It’s a new slang word out there today and I have been waiting to try to it out. Next time you take a rest, remember, it sounds much cooler when you say it in slang.

Sharing the Journey Speaker: Jeremy Hall: Session "Signs of the Times"

Q. What does the theme "Love Without Limits" mean to you?
This is a hard question for anyone to answer. But how much more so, with me having the handicap of being a man, and therefore a natural fear of the ‘L’ word.I suppose the first thing that pops into my head on the issue of Love is found in John 15:13-14.
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
It amazes me that while we were yet sinners, that Christ still died for us (Rom 5:8). We all stand guilty by the law (Rom 3:19) at the judgment seat of Christ, and yet He knowing we had no way of satisfying justice by our own accord, died for us… for me. It was my sin that placed him on the cross and yet he suffered in my place.
I’m not sure we can truly understand such love as that. Not to mention the magnitude of our transgression that can now be overlooked to those who would repent and have faith in Christ.

Q. How will women grow in "Love" during your session at Sharing the Journey on March 14th? It is my hope that the ladies attending will grow in their appreciation of the 66 love letters that God wrote to all mankind through His Holy Word.

Q. Outside of your passion to speak, what do you like to do for fun?
I am a fisherman at heart. I love to spend summer days fishing quietly on the lake pondering the important things in life.I also enjoy studying the Word, writing, playing my guitar and spending time with my family. Of no greater source of joy do I have than that in the smiles and laughter of my family. I truly am a blessed man.

Q. What does the theme "Love Without Limits" mean to you? Hmmm...I've given the theme a fair amount of thought. "Love Without Limits" is about unconditional love - the type of love we experience from God and as we mature in Him we have to share with others. I am cautious of the theme because there is a great difference between "Love Without Limits" and "Living Without Limits". As women we often get the two confused - thinking that not setting limits or boundaries in our relationships is the loving thing to do. God calls us to know who He has created us to be and to set limits and emotional boundaries that are respectful to ourselves and others. It is in setting healthy limits and boundaries and in living in close relationship with God that we can become great lovers.

Q. How will women grow in "Love" during your session at Sharing the Journey on March 14th?
It is very difficult to be loving when you feel angry...we will grow in love by becoming aware of our anger and how it impacts our lives...we'll grow in love by submitting that anger to God for Him to give us wisdom and clarity about it. We'll learn positive practical ways to deal with our anger that will leave us freer to love.

Q. Outside of your passion to speak, what do you like to do for fun?
Fun...I love to read...my husband & I really enjoy spending time with each other and time entertaining...I love to cook and bake - it is often a worship time for me...I enjoy sitting in the sunshine, canoeing, being with my kids, talking about God, I also enjoy spending time working in my flower gardens.

The absolute, extravagant, depth and breadth and height without end way
that God loves each of us, the heart of God that yearns to pour out
tous and for relationship with us, the potential we have, when we seek
Him, to love Him and then love others.

Q. How will women grow in "Love" during your session
I am praying that their hearts are already opening to hearing and

receiving the limitless love that God has first for them and their marriage.

I pray that they will "get" the truth of marriage being an expression and

testimony of God's love relationship between Jesus and His bride and

that they will take home a new sense of purpose and passion to seek

God first-no matter what challenges they may have in their marriages-

and to be transformed by His love.

3. Outside of your passion to speak, what do you like to do for fun?

I love to play with my kids and grandkids (some are the same age), have
people over (I will use any occasion as an excuse to have a party),
go for walks and hold hands with my husband, cook, go to plays, concerts
etc., sculpt, anything creative, actually, I find most everything fun
except housework. Last night, I agreed to skydive with my friend, in
June. I'm sure it will be fun....

Q: When you hear the words, Love Without Limits- what comes to mind?
I guess when I hear "Love Without Limits" the first thing that comes to mind is the scripture from Ephesians 3:17b-18. "And I pray that you , being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide, and long and high and deep is the love of Christ." It would seem that if I am going to have a difficult time grasping it, His love must be massive, or limitless.
My question is, how could He do it? My love definitely has limits. The only hope I have to even slightly grasp this kind of love or give this kind of love is by the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5 tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love... Could it be that simple? When I am so full of the Spirit and emptied of my fleshly desires the fruit will be love. Maybe even limitless love.

Q. How will women grow "in love" by attending your session at STJ March 14th :
It would be my hope that people participating in my session would be able to experience at least two things. First, that they would explore showing their love to their Lord through movement. Psalms 149 tells us to 'praise his name with dancing'. The second would be that they may have a God encounter unlike they ever have before. That they would leave the conference with a new found 'freedom' through movement that takes them to and through realms of Glory.

Q. What do you like to do for fun?
Unfortunately I was just asking myself the same question the other day. I had five kids in five and a half years and fun = sleep. Now the youngest two are four and I am managing to catch my breath a bit. I actually have had a few moments to myself in the last month and really did not know what to do. I have rediscovered the bath tub (instead of a high speed shower), facebook (yes Jodi I am finally on), a comfy prayer chair and board games with the kids. However, I am definitely open to suggestions. If you are coming to the conference I would love some new ideas on how to have fun! (I tried going blonde for the summer but I can't say that I had more fun as a blonde.)

Q.What does the theme: Love Without Limits" mean to you?

I know my love has limits because I hear myself saying, "I'm willing to do this much, but only this much... I know I can do that, but only that" I want to go this far, but only that far and no further." But with the Holy Spirit- the Spirit of Love- I often step beyond what I want or what I'm capable of. Where I see limitations, the Spirit sees possibilities; where I see the impossible, the Spirit sees miracles just waiting to happen.

Q.How will women "Grow in Love" during your session at Sharing the Journey on March 14th?"

Faith stories will impart a little bit of biblical knowledge regarding what a Christian Testimony is along with a whole lot of understanding that love is what drives one to testify.

Q.Outside of your passion to speak, what do you like to do for fun?

Speaking is not so much my passion, writing is. I'm currently working on a spiritual memoir and a book about testimony for WJOF. I study Hebrew in my spare time. Also, I'm studying screen writing and working on a script. I like reading too. (I'm a bit boring I think!) smile.

Carolyn Carleton was asked 3 questions in prep for our Sharing the Journey seminar on Saturday, March 14th at TCU Place.... She is speaking on the topic of Mentoring as one our break out sessions for women, and leading one session for our teen event as well.

Q. What does the theme "Love Without Limits" mean to you? We have an abundance of love flowing directly to us and over us from the Father above. Which is difficult for most of us to comprehend when we look at the world around us. I believe that it is something that we need to accept, embrace and share with others. Several years ago, this is something that was shown to me. I felt that God was asking me two things: "How can I be an example of Christ's sacrificial love to others?" and "What did I do today that only a servant of Jesus Christ would have done?" We all have opportunities everyday to be the hands, feet and love of Christ. His love is limitless and so are our opportunities to share it.

Q. How will women "Grow in Love" during your session at Sharing the Journey on March 14th?

With an abundance of love available to us we need to share it with those that we come into contact with. God doesn't give it to us freely to keep and hide away. It is given so that we can share it with those around us.

Colossians 3:12-13 "Since God Chose you to be holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender-hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony." Have you ever met someone that just seemed to glow? I know a few women like that; they are women that I look up to and admire. That "glow" is available to all of us, as we share our gits and love with others, the "glow" radiates more and more. In Matthew 5 you read about how you wouldn't light a lamp and then hide it under a basket. Why wouldn't you share the love of Christ with those around you? One of the best compliments that I have ever received was by someone I had just met and they asked me, "What's different about you?" My friends all tell me I'm a little different that there is something about me that she wanted to have. So I was able to share with her that my "Glow" didn't come from a new skin care regime but from my living and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

1 John 3:18 "Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions." During my session I will encourage the participants to be mentors in their relationships, finances, health and spiritual life. I will give practical ways to involve mentoring in one's daily life. My prayer is that you would leave the session "Glowing" to all those around you.

Q. Outside of your passion to speak, what do you like to do for fun?

People may find this hard to believe, but I love to crochet. I have already gotten several of my friends "hooked"! I love spending time with my family and building into their lives. I am blessed and honoured to have a family and I am learning more each day what a great responsibility I have. I am researching and studying greek! I love to take a passage of scripture and take it apart and learn all that I can. I am also a blog junkie- I love the fact that I can rant and encourage others through my blog and I enjoy my morning coffee while reading several blogs.

The Love Without Limits conference has come and gone- and our team is resting in the goodness of God. Shannon Ethridge's messages were undoubtedly powerfully annointed as each woman present had a personal touch to apply to her own journey from the teachings. The call for women to be released in leadership, the call for women to have sexual and emotional integrity, and the call for each woman to embrace Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.... this was an incredible conference weekend! All four of her messages were recorded as audio CD's, so if there is an interest in ordering them, you can contact Gerald at Repeat International directly.

We look forward to connecting with women on our Women's Journey of Faith facebook group in the coming year- reflecting on lessons learned and sharing the passion we have for both uncompromising truth and astonishing grace.

Last week before Love Without Limits!

Only one week away, whew, where has the time gone? Our team for WJOF is raring to go for our 9th annual conference weekend. I have an amazing ministry team I tell you...Each person doing their part with excellence and great love-along with all the other volunteers and special guests joining us on the weekend. Unity amidst diversity is a beautiful thing.

There are over 1200 women registered thus far for the conference and have room for hundreds more! We realize true success in conference planning doesn't come with the amount of tickets sold, or even if women have "fun" and say nice things on a comment card.... No, true success in God's eyes is a life transformed for His sake. Women's Journey of Faith is passionate about transformation in the here and now, and the beauty of a the destination as well. It's not about us, it's all about Him.

Join us in praying for this upcoming weekend.

Receiving...

At Sharing the Journey 2008, the seminar ended in a prayer of 'receiving'. Women were asked to extend their hands as a sign of receiving during the prayer time. Some may have a tough time doing that simple act as it is out of one's comfort zone. The point is not the position of one's praying hands, but the attitude of one's heart and mind. Many people have a tough time receiving as they either feel unworthy or the other extreme, don't feel they need God's touch. Women's Journey of Faith is committed to helping others see that they are loved and there is a BANQUET of gifts available to us through the countless promises of God.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7-8

"You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."

Let us be a people who has the faith to ask, who has the desire to receive, and when we do ask, have the right motives. (When in doubt, ask the Lord and share your prayers with others so they can discern with you if you are praying with right motives!)

Last year's theme for WJOF was "Confidence". Through the speakers, music and faith stories- we were reminded of the truth that it is in the arms of our heavenly Father where we find true confidence.

Growing in Confidence

She is a confident woman bringing grace and beauty into this world. She "dances" through life realizing the arms of her Father in heaven are there to guide her every step of the Journey. It is out of that relationship, we can have confidence to step out onto the dance floor of life and grow in Confidence! On Saturday, March 1st we continued our theme at our Sharing the Journey seminar at TCU place in Saskatoon.

It is evident that God has put a vision before the ministry team for WJOF to assist women on the journey to step out into the calling God has placed in our lives. We are not meant to be wallflowers, watching life go by as others " dance on by". Each woman has a devine purpose. We speak strength to our core purpose- this includes God's original design for marriage, parenting, service, reaching out, mentorship, prayer, healing in our mind body and soul. At STJ 2008, our local speakers imparted strength to our faith journey and confidence to step out. In this all, we share the journey.

Warm hearts, cold temps,great faith.

Saskatchewan temperatures may dip below minus 40, but that doesn't prevent the incredibly gracious and hospitible strength represented in the warm hearts amidst this great province.

This picture was taken at the Confidence conference in November after the teaching on unity where the churches 'dropped their ropes' and mingled together as a symbol of the love and unity that is ours in Christ Jesus. We need each other. One may need to borrow the strength of another during times of trials or uncertainty. Our faith fuels one another to higher heights. We are on a journey of faith, and each person is an integral part of this master plan unfolding.

Although WJOF is mainly known for our fall event, we encourage women to stay connected throughout the year by attending a local church where Christ is honored and His word is taught. Small groups, prayer partners, online studes, email devotionals are all some creative ways to stay connected. Another opportunity for fellowship and growth is on Saturday March 1st at TCU place. With '07 coming to a close and '08 just around the corner, it is good to remember markers of faith and times of great celebration. This picture was taken at the very end of the Confidence conference where the WJOF worship team and choir conluded with the song "TODAY" while we whacked some mega balloons in the air.

Here are some of the lyrics:
"Today, I choose to give my best to you, Today I choose to follow you. As for me and my house, we will serve you, as for me and my house, we will spend our lives on you ....today."

A year comes and goes like a blink of an eye- but if we truly cherish the time we are given and spend our time wisely- we can enter into the new year with CONFIDENCE. Time is a gift. When you consider your life, are you wasting it or living up to your God given potential? We all have the same gift of 24 hours in each day: 1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds. Advice is one thing- transforming truth is quiet another. Jesus’ timeless truths will mean nothing to us unless we put them into practice. In order to take the time to give out of the abundance of our hearts, we must first receive. A line I will not soon forget from our keynote speaker is "You cannot impart what you first don’t possess." Do you have reason to CELEBRATE? Do you know God Personally? You have every reason in the world to celebrate because of that decision to accept Jesus as your Savior and follow Him as Lord of your life.

Don't know if I believe in the magical list of "new year's resulotions", but we should take notice when someone makes a life changing commitment. It's all about priorities..... Taking the time to spend with God is ultimately time well spent. In these moments, we find true significance- a far cry from that elusive rat race notch on one’s belt. The next priority on the journey to right living is time spent with earth’s eternal commodity: people- God’s richest resource. You cannot put a price tag on days gone by, memories stored and time invested in the care and nurture of a soul. Celebrate the journey of faith Christ Jesus is calling you to. Celebrate the lives touched as a result of your witness and those who impact your life as well. Take the time to reflect- Life is meant to be celebrated!

-I went out for coffee with a longtime friend this evening and amidst our catch up chats, she commented "how awesome it must be to have found your calling". Well, I am most certian God is not finished with me yet, but I do recognize God's devine touch through my bumpy journey and am grateful I'm heading on the right path! If we truly had "eyes to see and ears to hear", we would see God's hand reaching out to us each step of the way and desiring us to choose HIS plans over our own agendas. Am I God Confident 24/7? I wish I could say so. What IS true though is the more I step out in faith, the more I OBEY the Lord, my Confidence grows more and more. Leading WJOF has been a great faith stretching endeavor for sure! WJOF is jam packed with amazing men and women (both upfront and behind the scenes, and YES, imperfect like me!) who are full of faith, love, incredible giftedness but most importantly a desire to serve. With all this in mind and all the great life lessons learned along the way- leading this ministry has truly been a gift to me personally and to our family.

Our WJOF team set aside a weekend together in Calgary this month.We attended the Women of Faith event at the Saddledome and were incredibly blessed by our time there. This planning team is raring to go! With a little over two months away to our conference at TCU place in Saskatoon, we are excited for what God has in store for us all. We are called to be Confident women. GOD confident that is- to be all that He has created us to be. Do what He has called us to do, and reach out to those people and places He has given us a personal burden for. Girls Night Out! World Vision's expanding journey....

World Vision is a major ministry partner with us at
Women's Journey of Faith. we are excited what

Phillipians 4:6-7-A New Year's resolution!

We all make mistakes, it's inevitable because we are human with
sinful tendancies living in a sinful world. Come January, we get caught
up with our cultures' bandwagon mentality that we need to make a "new
year's resolution." Wether it be to quit a nasty habit, start excersizing,
stop eating so much- or whatever... they are all good intentions that
(more often than not)-fail due to our lack of discipline and wandering
eyes. I believe the Lord wants to get our attention with His Word when
it comes to our goals and desires. Phillipians 4:6-7 is a simple yet profound
truth. Stop worrying, keep praying- have a thankful heart and you
will live a life of peace and contentment!
As we begin another year- let's fix our eyes on the Lord and make
a "resolution" to stop worrying so much and strive to live a life marked
by prayer! Regardless of our needs on the journey- relationships, our body
image struggles, financial concerns etc., we have all we need for direction
through an intimate prayer life, trusting the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and
the written Word of God.

Praying in the New Year

Each year at WJOF's fall conference, we intentionally set aside some time to pray for each woman in attendance, our families,
churches, cities, our nation, and the world. As we prepare for 2007-
We encourage you to likewise set aside time to "pray in the new year"!
In Psalm 46:10 it reads: "Be still and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation, I will be honored throughout
the world." Unless we "get still" before the Lord and
seek His voice, how can we align our hearts and minds with His?
Praying that this scripture will be a focus for you to protect that
quiet time with the Lord as we enter 2007 with hope and expectancy
of what lies ahead on the journey!

Empowered event- what a weekend!

The conference was just so f abulous. This is the first year where I
personally read all the comment cards the first week after the event.
All in all, I had a deep sense of God's leadership through this whole
year in preperation for our 7th annual conferece with WJOF. "Good
fruit" was a result where 36 childrenwere sponsored with World Vision,
28 women become Christians and hundreds "rededicated" their lives
to Christ Jesus on November 4th. Our team will meet in early December
to debrief and give feedback on our perspective roles, go over
the comments together and spend tons of time in prayer. Sure there was
techinical logistical hiccups throughout the day, but with 1775 women-
that was bound to happen. Other than the long lines for coffee and lunch,
everything in my heart said YES GOD! Lisa Bevere's speaking
ministry was phenominal, what an annointed woman of faith! CD's are available
by contacting Repeat International for $6 a session for those who missed

Lisa's messages are available as a set or as a single CD.
I am looking forward to listening to these on my LONG roadtrip to see
family this month. I will SOAK in the messages as I didn't get that chance
at the event with the many hats I wear there. I recommend getting the
CD's for yourself OR for a friend. It woud make a nice gift for Christmas
too! We are called to live a life of empowerement- All the time. How quickly
we loose that vision for our lives... so let's keep plugged
into the Lord's vision and to encourage others on the journey!

Conference time!

The big day has arrived and we are hours away from the
conference! Lisa Bevere and her assistant arrived late last
night in beautiful Saskatoon and I am meeting her over
coffee this morning to connect face to face. Email, phone
calls and letters are great- but nothing beats a person
to person encounter to share-dream-discern- and
encourage. My heart is full this morning of great
anticipation of what the Lord will do through the
ministry of WJOF this weekend. Praise God for the
many faithful servants who will sing, play instruments,
speak, pray, and greet @ this event. It takes many
hands and hearts to fulfill a mandate such as this.
When each person does their part with excellence,
passion, and joy- the unity among us thrives!
May this conference be a blessing to all who come!

Ephesians 6:10- HIS strength-

"Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power." Our theme
verse preceeds the call for each person of faith to put on the armor
of God. Many women read that verse in the Bible and have a difficult
time connecting as they don't see themselves as "soldiers", therefore
why put on the armor? Armor is associated with war or boot camp
for the armed forces. Spiritually speaking, we are in a war. The
enemy of our souls is waging war against all mankind and we are
sitting ducks if we are not prepared. As Lisa Bevere will share at the
WJOF conference, we are called to "Fight like a Girl".
That includes putting on the Full armor of God-
(not just some of it ladies, BUT ALL of it!)

As a reminder here are the 6 required "accesories" that we are
called to PUT ON:
-Shield of Faith: Our relationship with a faithful all
powerful God that protects us.
-Breastplate of Righteousness: reflecting the
righteousness character of God by our actions
-Sword of the Spirit: This is the Word of God, the Bible,
an instrument by which God’s power is shown.
-Belt of Truth: To be strengthened by God and to live truthfully
-Helmet of Salvation: Ultimate Protection
-Gospel of Peace: this means that our feet are fitted with the
readiness of the gospel of peace. Knowledge and acceptance of
the gospel helps us be prepared to do the will of God, including sharing
the Good news of Jesus Christ.

God created us to be STRONG in HIM, and in fellowship with
other believers, that strength is multiplied. We need each other,
and as Christians-we are army! Created to "Fight like a Girl"- as armor
bearers with our brothers. NOW that is an army to be reconned with!

As a conference planner, it was so fun
to attend the St Louis conference and
not be in charge of anything, I was so
relaxed! (tee hee.) It was great to watch

Called to "walk on water"....

I recently attended a conference in St.
Louis with my mom and we had an amazing
time together. Lisa Bevere was one of the
speakers who shared for 1 session from her
book "Fight Like a Girl" to a crowd of 19,000
women! I had much confirmation that God
chose Lisa to speak an annointed message
for us on Nov 3-4 @ Empowered. The exciting
part is that she gets to speak 4 times at WJOF
. This is one amazing woman who God has raised
up to teach, encourage and inspire women in
their "journey of faith". Her life reflects a
woman who is surrendering herself to the call of God
on her life. As a result she is "Empowering" others to live
a life of holiness through radical obediance...... A catchy phrase I took
home from the conference...
" We are called to be WATER WALKERS! If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat."

A Journey of UNITY!

Many people claim that they can "do it on their own". With much pride and
self-worship, that kind of belief system robs one of God's intention for true
authentic Biblical community and HIS design for "family". Being apart of God's
family through faith in Christ is INCREDIBLE. We truly do need each other-
we were created to serve others as we love God. By experiencing God's spirit
"empowering" us- we will understand- accept and celebrate that ALL true believers
in Christ are our FAMILY. After 7 years of women's conference planning, it has
been so enriching meeting other women of faith along the way. Women who have
"walked the line" for their entire lives and others who are new to the faith.
Women's Journey of Faith esteems UNITY. Regardless of one's church affiliation,
denomination, or worship preferences, our heart is to fulfill the prayer of Christ
"that they all be one." .With God's grace and Empowering Love available for us,
there is no excuse for sibling rivalry!

Paths unknown... leading- lighting-straightening!

I will lead them in paths they have not yet seen....

Our conference planning team met this past week
to report, pray and encourage one another in our
respective roles. Women from different walks of life:
(Admin assistant, TV anchor, Pastor's wives, artistic
directors, store manager, accountant...) different
church denominations: (Mennonite, Lutheran, Free-
Methodist, Pentecostal,etc) all gathering together
for one purpose. To use our gifts, time, talents,
experiences to host yet another WJOF event in
November. We opened up the meeting with a devotional from
Isaiah 42:16 which reads:

"I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths
they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked
places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them."

With the conference less than 8 weeks away, this scripture is just jumping
off the pages for me. To wake us up a bit and do something a bit "different",
I led the team in a silent treck hiking on our property on the acreage and
up a little hill to reflect on this passage more. This passage speaks
Empowerement....... God's power for those who do not know Him yet-
AND His power for those who do- yet have so much more to experience.
Notice how the Word says "I will" 3 times. All we have to do is be good
listeners and followers and HE will do His Empowering work through us.

Walking STRONG!

This picture we chose to use on the
main page of the website for WJOF
speaks STRENGTH to me. A pic of a
woman walking uphill with the use of
those "newfangled" walking sticks.
From what I've gathered this summer,
those sticks are the 'new thing' with
seasoned walkers and hikers.

Sure they help with posture and balance, but they also propell the
person to speeds yet realized with a strong steady pace.
This reminds me of the verse in Isaiah:

"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strengths, they will
soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they
will walk and not be faint..."

God desires for us to walk STRONG! Not in our strength, but in HIS. The
walking sticks for me symbolizes this spiritual truth: "In our weakness,
HE is strong.."

Empowered, a ripple effect!

Have you witnessed the beauty of a ripple effect? Those beautiful uniform ripples that permeate from the center. When I think of a person who is Empowered, it starts at the center. A woman (man or child for that matter!) who is in tune with the Lord hits the "center". From that point, it radiates into our relationships-it has no choice! A transformed life affects others around us. Our relationship with God never stops at us alone.... I read a book "Invitation to a Journey" from Robert Mulholland where he defines 'Spiritual Formation' as "the process of becoming like Christ for the sake of others." We are excited for the HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of women who will be affected by the message from Lisa and others on Nov 3-4. What is even MORE amazing is the countless lives that these women touch, it's absolutely astounding! To live a life of Empowerement is to inevitably be a life that models the ripple effect. Please pray for TCU place to be filled with women to not only be encouraged in their faith journey, but to also affect positive change in the lives of others!

"Fight LIKE A GIRL the Power of Being a Woman"- Lisa Bevere www.lisabevere.org

Our team in the in the midst of planning and praying for our 7th annual conference:
"EMPOWERED". To help prepare for this as a team, we each have our Keynote speaker's latest book: "Fight Like a Girl." Over the summer, it will make for some great times of reading, reflection and study!

Lisa Bevere is an answer to prayer and she will be an incredible speaker
to deliver the message of what it means to be Empowered! Wether one is single, married, a homemaker or in the workforce, God's message is timeless and Lisa's message to us is truly life changing! Our team would encourage you to read Lisa's book as well and join us in November for the conference!

Are you ready to redeem the term: "you Fight like a girl.." and look to God's word to live a life of EMPOWEREMENT !? Being a woman is an answer... not a problem..

WORSHIP NIGHT- April 28th

"But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his

We are gearing up for another inspirational time together on
" TRUE PURPOSE!" ..... Friday April 28th is a time for women AND GIRLS
to worship together, be encouraged in our faith through worship and the
mini concert with CARRIED AWAY. How many times do women and
girls get to mix "inter-generationally" outside of b-day parties, weddings
and baby showers! The more I read God's Word, the more convicted I'm to
"encourage the young" and to respect and learn from those who have
walked before me... God loves it when HIS people are together to
learn, to grow, to pray to worship, to be still.. Our world divides the
generations, and builds each generation with PRIDE (My way or the
highway attitude). We have so much to learn from one another-
God has gifted us with talents, wisdom, gifts, abilities, and passion to
make a difference for HIM! I pray that this will spur others to live a life
of TRUE WORSHIP. We all can be an encourager to all and seek out
mentors, be a mentor- encourage those younger than us to be all the
GOD has created them to be and also be open to learn from others who
have "been there done that.." (both our mistakes and our victories in Christ!)

"My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in
love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding,
in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ."
